You could participate in some of the famous free tours that the city has to offer. The free tour of the Grand Central Terminal is conducted on every Wednesday at 12:30 pm sharp. This tour is conducted by the Municipal Arts Society. You could have a free tour of the busiest rail terminal in the world and the location of numerous movie and TV pictures. You could also take a free tour to the Central Park and laze around with your family here. This oasis in the middle of New York City is a truly amazing place and Central Park is a must-visit when visiting NYC.
Other places where free tours are conducted in the city include the Times Square, where several events are held on special occasions, and the building of the Federal Reserve Bank.
You can jump on the free ferry to Staten Island and back, on the ferry you get a free close look of the Statue of Liberty on Liberty Island. When visiting lower Manhattan take a walk over the Brooklyn Bridge, it has scenic views over lower Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty. Make sure you also visit Ground Zero and the financial district around Wall Street.
If you are looking for some free beer (who isn’t?), you could get some at the Brooklyn Brewery on the 11th Street in Brooklyn. You can head out here for free beer on Fridays (between 6 and 10 pm) and on Saturdays (between noon and 5 pm).
When you are looking at free food in New York City, you must not miss out on Williamsburg. Several bars in Williamsburg give out free food to people who buy beers. You can stand to get a free New York pizza or hash browns or some hot dogs! Williamsburg is also the place to check out some free music documentaries. You could do that even at the Lower East Side where you get to see some music stuff for free as you are sipping on cocktails like Blood Mary and the like for just under $3.
Of course, you must not ignore the power of window shopping on Fifth Avenue. Most people would agree that ogling at goodies is much better than actually buying them. check out the uptown Manhattan area for a surfeit of shopping malls where you can just move around aimlessly, drooling over the various things displayed proudly in their swanky stores.
