6 Chug-Tastic Open-Bar Deals in NYC
Drinking at city bars can be mighty expensive, but staying in? Not an option. Here’s a list of places you can get the most bang (aka booze) for your buck. The divey spots that offer these specials may not be the prettiest in town, but you won’t notice after all those drinks anyway. We challenge you, dear readers, to find (and share) better promotions than these boozy deals, listed in order of price:
The epitome of grungy dive bars, Doc Holliday’s, has arguably the best beer deal in the city as long as you’re ok with guzzling only Bud Light draft for the whole night. Show up on Tuesday at 8 PM, pay $7 and drink as much of the stuff as you can stomach until the deal ends at 11 PM (212-979-0312).
If the thought of drinking Bud Light for three hours is unappealing, we don’t blame you! The Thursday night deal at John Street Bar & Grill costs $10 – but the extra dough will buy you some variety. From 5–8 PM, fill yourself to capacity with Budweiser, Bud Light, John Street Amber and Rolling Rock (212-349-3278).
This list is starting to get downright classy! Hit up Mad River for “Wild on Wednesday.” On that night, from 7–10 PM, $10 gets you an open bar, including domestic beer and mixed drinks. A DJ provides the soundtrack to your chugalugging (212-988-1832).
Black Bear Lodge has an open bar deal much like Doc Holliday’s, but for double the price: $15 fetches you unlimited Bud and Bud Light. Why the price bump? We think the bar’s beloved jukebox might have something to do with it, not to mention the faux ski-lodge decor (212-253-2178).
Readers who thought that $15 was a little steep should stop reading now, though the next deal is most certainly worth the splurge. BlackFinn offers several open-bar options on various nights: $20 Wednesday–Friday, 6–8 PM; $25 Friday–Saturday, 9 PM–midnight; and a whopping $30 from 10 PM–1 AM on Friday–Saturday. (We realize there’s a time overlap there – the cost depends on when you start drinking.) The deal includes all beers (draft and bottle) wines and mixed drinks made with mid-shelf spirits like Absolut, Stoli and Tanqueray (212-355-6607).
The belle of the boozy ball is undoubtedly Flûte’s upscale take on the open bar. Mondays, 7–9 PM, at this Flatiron drink den, $25 gets you unlimited access to house liquors, beer, wine, house champagne, kir royals, Bellinis and hors d’oeuvres. The deal is also available at the Midtown location, and unlike others on the list, this one includes gratuity (212-529-7870).
Flûte aside, open-bar deals don’t include your ‘tenders’ tips, so be sure to pony up for each drink.
